Island Disc Golf Company - The Story

Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc or Frisbee®. The sport was formalized in the 1970's and shares with "ball golf" the object of completing each hole in the fewest strokes (or, in the case of disc golf, fewest throws). A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a basket which is the "hole", each throw you make you walk up and continue to take shots till you get it in the chains or basket.
Early in 2018, I contacted the Maritime Disc Golf Association to discuss doing a Come Try Disc Golf in Eastern PEI. I spoke with the then President of MDGA (Ben Smith) and arranged some dates for him to come out to the Valleyfield Woodlot in Montague during the Summer. This is where I first got hooked on and fell in love with disc golf.
Since that first mini-course set up, I was extremely interested and intrigued to learn more about the sport and learn how to play it myself so that I could teach others and inspire them to play. A few things in particular that I enjoy most about disc golf is that it is inclusive for any age and ability, it’s environmentally friendly, it can be played year round, and you get to be outside and experience nature in it’s utmost beauty!
In 2018, the Canadian National Disc Golf Championships were held here on Prince Edward Island at our two amazing courses in Bonshaw (Hillcrest Farms) and in Middleton (Huck It). I attended as a spectator with some friends and it was incredible to watch some of the best disc golfers in the world to see what they could do. The Canadian Nationals were once again hosted here on PEI in September 2019 after the 2018 tournament was one of the most successful in its history! Despite Hurricane Dorian doing it's best to ruin the final day of play, organizers and course designers did everything needed to pull off another extremely successful tournament. They did such a great job that once again they were awarded the 2020 Canadian National Championships. We all know that unfortunately did not happen but to say we are just looking forward to hosting in 2021 would be a massive understatement!

PEI will have another course to add to this amazing tournament and is known as the Rose Valley Disc Golf Course (near Barnone Brewery). We now have 3 unbelievable tournament style courses with others in the works across the entire Island. The Town of Cornwall and Charlottetown Rural have both installed awesome 9 hole beginner courses and this is still just the beginning.

Disc Golf is rapidly growing on Prince Edward Island and because of that I realized quickly that I wanted to help grow this amazing sport across the Island and beyond. Island Disc Golf Company is your one stop shop for all of your disc golf needs including discs, bags, baskets, apparel, accessories and clinics/demos.
